Skin care this festival season

Get that festive glow this season with simple tips

It is that time of the year, when the festivals are round the corner and it seems like time to take care of your skin and give it that festive glow.

Consumption of unhealthy, rich food, the pollution in the air due to incessant firecrackers and lack of time for skincare – all take a toll on the skin.

Beauty experts suggest going for a balanced skin care regime just before and after the festive season to save your skin.

Never sleep with your makeup on.
Every night before sleeping, make it a point to thoroughly remove all traces of makeup from your face and neck with the help of a gentle cleanser

Cleansers
Make your face glow with a good cleansing program. To keep your skin the way you like it, wash your face twice a day with appropriate face washes—avoid any harsh cleansers.

Remember, the main rule is to keep the skin clean. Use a gentle, foaming facial wash; using soap is not recommended because it may be too alkaline for the skin. A cleanser with salicylic acid may be good if you have tendency to acne

Moisturiser
Apply an oil-free moisturizer in the morning, and balance your skin with a low-alcohol toner during the day, if necessary.

Don’t forget to treat your skin for oily or dry tendencies as they arise. Don’t ignore them because your skin may usually seem “perfect.” Avoid direct heat on your face to avoid drying out your normal skin.

Always use a sunscreen to protect your skin. Use products to keep your skin healthy. Use special masks and scrubs regularly to slough off blackheads.

Sunscreen
Sunscreen should be applied 15-20 minutes before stepping out in the sun as it takes some time for the action to start. Apply evenly and liberally. It is recommended that to obtain the labeled spf, sunscreen needs to be applied at 2 mg/sq cm. If half the recommended amount is applied, you get less than half the spf protection.

Scrub
Sometimes oily skin has a hard upper layer, so regular exfoliation is essential to keeping it soft and unclog pores. Use a gentle, grainy scrub twice weekly, concentrating on blackhead-prone areas like the nose and chin.

Other tips
To make sure you look fresh and vibrant for all the festivals lined up this season , you should take a little bit of time to pamper yourself and your skin. Below are some common pre-wedding treatments that you may want to try

Balanced diet
Fresh fruit and vegetables, and protein such as fish helps your body stay healthy and strong, fight fatigue and resist infection.

Water
Have at least eight glasses a day to hydrate your skin and flush out toxins from your system.

A healthy lifestyle
Too much alcohol, caffeine and cigarettes ravage the skin from the inside – avoid them. Exercise, yoga, and other physical activities will help build strength, energy, and increase stamina.

Sleep
Your body needs time to replenish its skin cells, leaving the skin around your eyes free from bags and dark circles, so make a ritual of sleeping early and having a good 8 hour sleep.

Rest well
Much of the way we look is directly related to the health, vitality and maintenance of our skin. During the festival season, all are so busy making arrangements, shopping and travelling that they neglect to take care of themselves.

Unfortunately, skipping meals or having excess of the festival sweets and lack of sleep can have an ill effect on the overall health and the appearance of the skin. To make sure you look fresh and vibrant for this season of festivities, you should take a little bit of time to pamper yourself and your skin.
